Guides · Rules that end accounts
A news rule is a clock, a list, and a penalty
‘News allowed’ is incomplete. You need the minutes, the calendar, and whether the evaluation differs from the reward stage.
Firms define news as a window around events they mark as high impact. The window might be two minutes or five. The list might be theirs, or a named vendor’s. Opening a trade inside the window, closing one, or simply holding one can be three different permissions.
Funding Pips’ 2-Step Pro article shows how messy a single page can be: no restriction in the evaluation, a prohibition on purposely trading news in both phases, and a five-minute master-account window with a swing exception. Until those sentences are reconciled, a matcher must not award a clean ‘news allowed’.
FTMO’s objectives page, on the day we captured it, did not state a news rule. That is unknown, not allowed. The demonstration Northline record uses a two-minute conditional window so you can see what a complete sentence looks like. It is not FTMO’s rule.
