How to read a source card
The passage, the date, the scope, and the conflict note. The paraphrase is the convenience.
Every material rule on a published record should have a source card: a topic, a short summary, the passage it came from, a label for the document, a capture date, a scope, a reviewer, and an evidence status. The summary is for scanning. The passage is the thing you are entitled to argue with.
Evidence labels, in the order of how much they claim
- Label
- Company-stated
- What we are saying
- The firm said this. We stored the words.
- What we are not saying
- That it is true, complete, or still current.
- Label
- Source reviewed
- What we are saying
- A person read the passage against the field.
- What we are not saying
- That a regulator, a lawyer, or a customer confirmed it.
- Label
- Independently corroborated
- What we are saying
- A second, primary source agrees.
- What we are not saying
- That every other field on the record was checked the same way.
- Label
- Unresolved conflict
- What we are saying
- Two sources disagree and both are still in force.
- What we are not saying
- That we picked a winner quietly.
- Label
- Not found
- What we are saying
- We looked in the reviewed set and did not find it.
- What we are not saying
- That it is allowed.
- Label
- Stale
- What we are saying
- The review is older than the freshness window.
- What we are not saying
- That the rule flipped. Only that you should not treat it as live.
- Label
- Not applicable
- What we are saying
- The question does not arise on this product.
- What we are not saying
- A yes.
Scope and version
A card that says ‘demonstration product version on the record’ does not govern the next size up. Northline’s consistency card is explicit that the 40% cap is not in the 50k or 100k schedules. If a card’s scope is one version, do not paste it onto the family. Families are a shopping convenience. Versions are the contract.
A conflict card, read properly
On Sable’s Three-Step 100k there are two weekend cards. One quotes the terms: a position open at the weekend is a breach. One quotes the FAQ: you can hold over the weekend on every programme. The second card’s status is unresolved conflict, and the conflict note states that neither text has been withdrawn. The product’s own evidence status is unresolved conflict. You should not feel that the desk ‘hasn’t finished’. Leaving it unresolved is the finished state until a source changes.
Dates
Captured date is when the passage was taken. Reviewed date on the product is when the record was assembled. Price checked is when the fee was looked at, which can differ. A rule from September and a price from October can sit on one record honestly. If you need the rule to be true today, look at whether the review is inside its stale-after window. A stale review stays visible and loses any promotional treatment. It is not deleted and it is not called live.
When you send a correction
- Name the field, not the firm’s entire reputation.
- Paste the passage, or give a stable URL.
- Say the version and the date you saw it.
- If you are holding the other side of a conflict, send it as a second source. Do not ask us to delete the first.
